TYPES OF MASSAGE

At Ki Massage Therapy we practice a number of massage therapy styles to meet your needs. Our professional, certified therapists will create a blended therapy session incorporating multiple modalities to meet your unique needs.

Some of the massage styles practiced at Ki Massage Therapy include:

Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the most common and oldest type of massage. It was developed by Swedish fencing master and gymnastics instructor, Per Henrik Ling. He was among the first to create a scientific system of manipulations of the muscles and connective tissues for the purpose of relaxation, pain management and rehabilitation. Swedish massage is relaxing, improves circulation and reduces stress.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is often used in conjunction with Swedish massage. It focuses on the deeper muscles and connective tissues of the body. The therapist incorporates a variety of movements, hand techniques and pressure to manipulate and move the muscles and connective tissue with the goal of “re-educating” those tissues from habitual holding patterns.

Hot Stone Massage
Stones are heated and used throughout the massage and allow the therapist to focus on problem areas with added heat and movement. Stones of various textures and sizes are used by the therapist to conform to contours of the body. Stones can be laid on various parts of the body during the massage while the therapist uses oiled, palm-sized stones to massage muscles of the legs, arms, neck and torso.

Sports Massage
As the name suggests, Sports Massage involves using various massage techniques to enhance athletic performance, manage injuries and speed recovery time. Therapists use a variety of therapies including Swedish strokes, compression, pressure-point therapy, cross-fiber friction, joint rotation, hydrotherapy, and ice massage.

Seated Massage
Chair massage is increasingly seen in malls, airports and at businesses. Clients are seated, usually in a special massage chair, fully clothed. Practitioners use a wide variety of techniques but often employ Shiatsu, Swedish and deep tissue techniques. Ki Massage can arrange seated massage at your place of business.

Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy Massage addresses the special needs of pregnant women such as discomfort in the lower back, feet, and legs. Various massage techniques can be modified to take into account common aches and pains of pregnancy. Positioning of the client is also modified as the pregnancy progresses and the abdomen enlarges.
